The idea for Kadam was born at the end of 2022 from a simple, urgent question: why is there no easy, affordable way to check if a drink has been spiked in India? Drink spiking incidents were — and continue to be — under-reported, under-addressed, and deeply underestimated in their frequency and impact.
The early days were challenging. The first detection principle tested gave inaccurate results. Rather than giving up, the team pivoted — shifted to a new principle, rebuilt the proof of concept, and validated it in 2023. The strip, reader, and app system emerged from this relentless iteration.
Kadam Wellness was officially registered on 14 August 2023 — Independence Day — as a statement of intent. The company was subsequently incubated at AIC-LMCP and went on to receive backing from Ihub-Srujan, SSIP, MOE's Yukti Grant, and recognition from GIAN-ZYDUS and the Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Centre.
Field trials for the MVP were conducted in 2025–26. The product is now being scaled. And the vision has expanded — from spiked drink detection to a full home-based diagnostic suite for families across India.
This is just the first Kadam. There are many more to come.

We are in the process of bringing aboard advisors from law enforcement, the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), and the Narcotics Department to further strengthen Kadam's mission.

The Idea Sparks
Development began on the strip's first Proof of Concept. The initial detection principle was tested — and found to give inaccurate results.
Pivot. Better Science.
Shifted to a second, stronger detection principle. This gave accurate, reliable results — and became the scientific foundation of Kadam.
POC for Strip Developed
The strip's proof of concept was built using the validated principle. The competitive antigen-antibody reaction showed strong performance across beverage types.
Reader & App POC Begin
Development started on the smart reader (for low-visibility environments) and companion app (for result display and emergency alerts).
Kadam Wellness Born 🇮🇳
Company officially registered on Independence Day. Shortly after, incubated at AIC-LMCP — Kadam's first institutional home.
Grants, Competitions & Validation
Applied to multiple grants and innovation competitions. Won recognition from GIAN-ZYDUS, SSIP, MOE Yukti, Ihub-Srujan, and the Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Centre.
POC → Minimum Viable Product
Moved from proof of concept to a commercially viable, enhanced MVP across the strip, reader, and app. Accuracy, packaging, and UX all significantly improved.
Field Trials Conducted
Real-world field testing of the spiked drink detection product completed. Data collected, refined, and used to finalise the product for market launch.
Scaling & Expanding
Expanding the product's usage. Exploring home diagnostics for family wellness. Building the Kadam ecosystem — one kadam at a time.
